It lies on both banks of the Danube River, in the southwestern part of the country, at the border with Hungary and Austria.
We can find here a number of architectural monuments from different periods. The main landmark of the city and a symbol of its rich history is the Bratislava Castle. From the courtyard is a wonderful view of the old town, as well as to neighbouring Austria and Hungary. You also should not miss a visit to the Devín Castle at the confluence of the Danube and Morava Rivers. From its tower you can enjoy the view of the neighbouring Austria.
Most of the historical monuments are located in the historical heart of the city. The Old Town Hall is a complex of buildings from the 14th and 15th centuries and today it is the seat of the Municipal Museum. St. Michael's Gate is the only reminder of the original medieval town fortifications and one of the oldest constructions in the city. Curiosity is the underground Jewish cemetery (formerly above-the-ground) at the entrance to a tram tunnel on the waterfront, where Rabbi Chatam Sofer was buried.
